Mr Ximing Ren was born in Guangdong, mainland China in 1985.

He graduated in 2008 with a B.Eng. of Optical Information Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, China and in 2011 from Beihang University, China with M.Eng. in Electronics Science and Technology.

In 2011, Ximing started a PhD with a prize scholarship from the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) with the Photon Counting group studying time–of–flight laser–ranging under the supervision of Prof. Gerald Buller.

In his spare time, Ximing enjoys football, badminton, swimming, hiking, music and movies.
